With global, regional, national and local experience applied to vulnerability assessments, value chains, resilience improvement, urban planning, training, institutional analysis, and proactive risk management.
Our research team has more than 20 years of experience in the critical evaluation of coastal and territorial management plans, incorporating society interests and aiming for climate adaptation, the relevance of biodiversity, the reduction of natural events impacts, while targeting Sustainable Development.
Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
Ecosystems provide goods and services to humans, companies and economies. These vary within regions. Some can be directly measured; others, –such as reduction of risk to extreme events– require a deeper understanding of the functionality and structure of ecosystems and biodiversity.
Our areas of research focus on analyzing the interactions of these services and the functionality of ecosystems to strengthen decision-making processes:
Green tourism: assessment and evaluation of economic and social impacts associated with tourism.
Evaluation and analysis of governmental and companies’ policies in promoting environmental efficiency and sustainability.
Financial mechanisms for environmental projects.
Designing and implementation of innovative and comprehensive responses to the challenges faced by biodiversity conservation and Sustainable Development.
Evaluation and use of natural ecosystems as climate change adaptation strategies.
Pro- active Disasters Risk Management
Climate change is a reality. Every year new records of temperatures, floods, droughts or destructive storms are being documented. These phenomenons have always existed but its incidence is increasing dramatically as time passes by.
Taking into account that in the event of a natural disaster, an eventual compensation from an insurance would take months and may not cover all the damages, companies need to prepare themselves for the increase of climatic phenomenons instead of adopting a passive attitude towards risks.
Our consulting services can anticipate the possible risks and implications for your business, allowing you to take measures that limit potential impacts. Our group has specialized in the identification and evaluation of natural disasters risks, prevention proposals and risks management.
Pro- active Management and Metrics for Climate Impacts
Uncertainty plays an important role in the contribution of companies’ inherent risk and financial stability. Grupo Laera has formulated an approach leveraging deep expertise in Finance, Risk and Climate to combine a comprehensive assessment of your institution’ financial ability to withstand climate uncertainty.
We leverage a comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) scheme, modelling of climate events (water, temperature, wind) and provide financial assessments to provide metrics of financial impact as a result of a climate event.
As part of our offering we have access to solutions in which we provide financing instruments, insurance and competitive insight to mitigate risks in the public and private sectors, as well as in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
